The testimonies in the Journal and the Sentinel have always been a source of inspiration to me, giving me courage to go on when doubt and discouragement seemed overwhelming. With the hope that my experience in Christian Science may help others, I am sending this expression of gratitude.
Over twenty-two years ago, a friend in whose home I was visiting suggested that we talk to one of her neighbors who had received a wonderful healing of an internal trouble through Christian Science. We did so, and as a result I bought a copy of Science and Health and began reading. A few days afterward I returned to my home, where there were no Christian Scientists; and, fearing criticism, I put the book away and gave it no more thought. Later I obtained a position as teacher in the schools of a distant town and boarded in the home of Scientists. At this time I was not satisfied with the explanation of God offered by the orthodox church of which I was a member and in which I had been reared. The people with whom I was boarding were so harmonious that I realized at once that their religion was more practical and provable than mine, so again I began to read Science and Health. Later, I withdrew from my former church and joined a Christian Science Society.
If there were never a physical healing, I would not exchange the truth about God, man, and the universe, which Christian Science has given me, for the old beliefs; and I can never be grateful enough for the knowledge that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Love; that He is the creator of good, not evil; that sin, disease, and death have no reality and no power. However, I was healed of attacks of tonsillitis, from which I had suffered since childhood, constipation, and bronchial pneumonia with serious heart trouble.
