About thirteen years ago I was very unhappy. My sister, who was interested in Christian Science, asked me to come to her house one afternoon and stay with the children while she went to town. I did so, and while there I picked up her copy of Science and Health and began reading, and I shall never forget the feeling that came over me when I read the words, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Pref., p. vii). Before that time I never knew there was a "sustaining infinite," but I now know it, through the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook. I have had no other help than this Science during these years, and I have had many problems to work out.
Over two years ago I suffered from a breakdown and a bad fever; for three months I had only a few hours' sleep and it seemed impossible to eat anything. I was tormented with wrong thoughts most of the time, day and night; the only rest I got was when I was reading Christian Science literature and seeking God. I had help from practitioners, but it seemed that I had to work in Science for myself by the hour. In the beginning of this struggle the words came to me, Don't let error be voiced through your lips or actions; and I kept that thought with me all through the battle. There were many months of hard labor for me, but at last my faith was turned to understanding, and now I know God to be divine Mind. All through the many months of this struggle I was able to take care of my three children and myself, and to do part of my housework.
