Testimonies of Healing

Recently my attention was attracted...

From the July 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently my attention was attracted to the verse in Psalms which reads, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;" and I questioned, Have I taken advantage of each right opportunity to "say so"? One definition of "redeemed" given by a dictionary which applies to this use of the word is "to free from bondage or slavery by paying a ransom or price." When I consider the slavery which held me in bondage from girlhood into early womanhood and how the shackles were removed by the light of Truth and Love that shone upon me as I studied Science and Health, I am sure that only disobedience can keep me from testifying in a way that may bring hope and encouragement to others, namely, through the opportunity offered by the Christian Science periodicals.

In my childhood, physicians diagnosed my trouble as a weak constitution. I was "delicate." When a second sister passed away with an inherited dread disease, the attending physician predicted that I should soon follow. This prediction caused great fear on my account.

Some years later when my mother was attacked by this greatly feared disease and my only child passed away with an ailment of the same nature, the trouble manifested itself in me and we were told my passing was only a question of time. The physicians agreed that I must not remain in the middle-western climate another season, so in October I went farther west. There a copy of Science and Health was placed in my hands. The appeal this book made to me was so strong that my medicines were destroyed, and with a determination to prove for myself if it were the truth, I commenced a careful, prayerful study of it. Improvement was rapid and has been permanent. After studying for about six weeks I returned to this locality, where I have remained without ill effect for many years.
