It is with a deep and humble sense of grateful appreciation of the wonderful revelation of Truth given to us by our revered Leader, and her untiring struggle with the forces of evil, that I offer this testimony of the regenerating and healing power of Christian Science.
Truly, I had reached "man's extremity" when I first learned of Christian Science. For some time I had prayed to the "unknown God" for guidance and relief from my distress, financial and moral. The answer to this prayer came as I listened one Sunday to a lecture on Christian Science. At that time I knew practically nothing of its teachings, but my desire for Truth was sincere, so I obtained a copy of Science and Health and began to read. And what reading! I did practically nothing else but read and study that textbook for days, hardly taking time to eat and sleep, so certain was I that I had at last found "the way." After reading the book through once, I realized I was healed of a great sense of grief and self-pity, resulting from the passing on of both my parents but a few weeks apart.
I then sought out a practitioner, not particularly for healing, but for help in understanding this newly found Life, which is God. When I learned that I could be helped in problems other than physical, work was lovingly taken up in Christian Science on a problem of lack and unemployment. There were many phases of sin which needed to be cast out of my consciousness, and the healing did not come quickly; but I am grateful that the lessons to be learned more than offset the seeming hardships. I learned one great lesson —that true substance is God, good, and not material wealth.
