Several years ago a loving friend handed me a Christian Science Sentinel, and told me to read the testimonies. I did so and became interested, for I reasoned that if there was in the world today the truth that could make people well and happy, I wanted to know about it. A few months later there was an opportunity to prove this healing truth. I was stricken one day with severe pains. After an examination by a physician, the decree was passed upon me that I had a tumor and that an operation must be performed at once. The condition was critical, and for a while it seemed as though the operation were the only way out. But again the friend who gave me the Sentinel advised me to see a copy of the Journal and to select a Christian Science practitioner from the list. This I did and had treatment. Within two weeks the tumor was expelled, without the need of a surgeon's knife, leaving me better physically and mentally than I had ever been before.
The trials and tests that have come to me recently have been numerous. I was forced to demonstrate daily supply for food, rent, and clothing, as I had no fixed income; and I had to know that the income of Life, Truth, and Love was sufficient to meet my needs. There were days in which I knew not where or to whom to turn, or how the evening meal would be ready for my little one. Needless to say, however, as I held steadfastly to Principle, knowing that as I partook of the "hidden manna" I certainly could never lack the visible manifestation in the form of food, and as I maintained courage and unwavering faith and love, my needs were all met.
I have been healed of many diseases, among them being pneumonia, influenza, grippe, and liver and stomach trouble; also of sorrow and disappointment. I have also had great protection in time of accidents. Every day, every hour, I praise God and thank Him that there was such a wonderful, pure woman as our beloved Leader, through whom this great truth could be given to humanity. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; for church activity; and for class instruction. My prayer is that I may live each day so close to Him that my actions as well as my words will prove my sincerity and gratitude.—New Orleans, Louisiana.
