Testimonies of Healing

In 1929 Christian Science came to...

From the March 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1929 Christian Science came to me as a direct answer to prayer. I should like to relate this healing, for it was a joyous one, and I shall always remember my being so uplifted and free, because I so clearly felt and realized the nearness and ever-presence of our loving Father-Mother God. I had been bedfast for a period of eight months with what doctors termed an infection of both kidneys. I was under the care of a distinguished specialist and surgeon, and three other consulting physicians, during this time. Four months of this period were spent in a hospital. When experiments, X-rays, and material means had failed, and I was nearing "the valley of the shadow of death," I prayed earnestly to be healed in the same manner as those who went to Jesus with all kinds of afflictions. After I returned home from the hospital, my landlady told me about Christian Science and said she knew I could be cured, as she had experienced a wonderful healing. She lovingly lent me her copy of Science and Health. My husband and I read the chapter on Prayer, and I shall never forget the enlightenment and encouragement that I experienced through reading that chapter. I then realized that Christian Science was what I was looking for. Although I had belonged to an orthodox church since early childhood, there always seemed to be something more that I wanted and could not find. The next day a practitioner took up the work and I experienced an instantaneous healing. My whole body was completely healed, although previously not an organ in it was functioning properly. Six weeks after taking up the study of Christian Science my husband and I made a trip to another city, and the next morning we walked eight or nine blocks to a church service. It has been over five years since this healing took place and I have experienced excellent health.

There are several other experiences for which I am also very grateful. One is that of a very harmonious childbirth, through the conscientious work of a practitioner and my own spiritual thinking. Our little boy was healed of sore eyes a few weeks after birth, through our holding to the statement in Science and Health (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." This healing was complete in three days.

I am indeed grateful for the many healings which we have experienced through Christian Science, for our beloved Leader, for the works of Christ Jesus, for the practitioners, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement. I am also grateful for having the pleasure of subscribing for all of our literature. My only desire is that I may let my "light so shine," that others may be brought to this great truth and share with me the great blessings which I have experienced.—
