My first healing in Christian Science has always been outstanding to me. The Sunday on which I first attended a church service, I sprained an ankle while alighting from a streetcar. I hardly know how I managed to board another car to go to my home. The thought came to me, Now is the time to prove God's allness. I had had the Christian Science textbook only a week, but I had learned "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468), and I kept saying it over and over again. I do not know when the pain left, but I do know that some fifteen minutes later I was able to get off the car and run up three flights of stairs to my home, as free as I had been before. This demonstration taught me at the very beginning that Christian Science does heal if we earnestly apply what we have learned, no matter how little that may be.
Another beautiful healing was that of a cyst in an eye, which had troubled a member of my family for fifteen years. Several doctors had stated that an operation was necessary. At a time when the condition seemed aggravated, help in Christian Science was asked for by this member, who was not a Scientist, and in about two weeks the cyst was lifted out of the eye, roots and all. Truly was this the operation of divine power.
When my son was five years old he ran a rusty nail through the palm of his hand while playing in the yard. A doctor who lived in the building ran downstairs and released the hand. I remained where I was and turned away from the material sense of things, knowing that God, good, is everywhere and that evil is nowhere. Half an hour after this occurred we accepted an invitation to take an automobile ride. The healing was complete and instantaneous.
