Christian Jesus walked this earth perceiving reality and refuting unreality. Through steadfast spiritual perception he performed what human sense regarded as miracles, but what to him were tokens of the healing power and presence of divine Love, mightily aglow in his consciousness. Through his unwavering fidelity to God he withstood the claims of hypnotism and mesmerism, and forbade the mist of material sense to dim the vision of his own and each one's sonship. He lovingly liberated those whom he found stricken by the distresses of material sense, and in whom he discerned a willingness to believe in his ministry.
Through this same steadfast spiritual perception, Mrs. Eddy did similar healing works. Furthermore, being filled with a longing to share her discovery, she made this scientific healing accessible to all humanity through her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Accessible, yes, to the spiritually responsive, but unacceptable, for the time, to those whose hearts are "waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see . . . and hear . . . and understand . . . and should be converted, and I should heal them."
The influence of divine Love alone dissolves adamant resistance to the truth of being. He who opens his heart to the message of Christian Science, and utilizes it to the utmost, finds his gaze penetrating beyond the bittersweet of human experience into the bliss of sheer spirituality. Glimpsing his God-given identity, he is no longer absorbed in the husks of materiality, and false appetites and fears recede from his purer thought.
