Among the divine blessings poured out upon humanity through the revelation of Christian Science is the vitalizing of human purposes. Christian Science silences the dirge of Job, "My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart." It awakens in one a new and lofty purpose and the assurance of its fulfillment. Between an individual and his health, happiness, and successful endeavor no abyss yawns when he grasps God's divine purpose and identifies himself with it. Hope, the whisper of Love, awakens depressed human thought from its barren night even as a sun-warmed breeze stirs the leaf buds in spring.
Christ Jesus' healing works are the sign of God's purpose always operating for the benefit of humanity. Mrs. Eddy writes of this Saviour of men (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 162), "To carry out his holy purpose, he must be oblivious of human self." Whatever presumes to defeat or to delay the manifestation of God's purpose on earth is doomed to failure In every conflict with "human self," victory is assured as we base this victory over the flesh on Mind's eternally established purpose. Where humanity sees hope and promise, divine Mind sees fulfillment, and Christian Science requires us to see as Mind sees. The vivid prophecies of redemption sparkling through Scripture bespeak the eternal perfection of God, man, and the universe, beside which there is naught else, never has been and never will be.
Our daily life is purposeful as we see God's law of perfection calling forth in all the beauty of health and holiness, the joy of universal love, the strength and obedience which characterize God's image. Whatever may be our daily occupation, or if, owing to circumstances, we at present have none, our main purpose in life should be to recognize and prove that our mental activity, spiritual progress, and increasing discernment and demonstration of God's power are sustained by divine Mind's law of unfoldment. All whose thoughts ring true to Truth are doing their share in bringing God's divine purposes to light. It is only the deceived and doleful thinkers who temporarily obscure them. Truth is untouched by the puerile lies uttered in its holy name.
