PERFECTION, HERE AND NOW

From the May 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man, —as the basis of thought and demonstration" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 259). In these significant words our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gives us a rule for every desire, thought, word, action, and demonstration. As the realization of "perfect God and perfect man" begins to fill one's thought, one gains freedom from the heaviness of mortal-mind thinking, and is lifted above trials, because perfection is seen to be right at hand, available and provable to all who lift their thoughts Godward.

Even though mortal mind argues that imperfection is all around, that discord is true, the real man sees perfection filling all space, because he reflects God, "from whom all blessings flow." Right here in this material sense of creation, where there seems to be danger, distress, disease, lack, enmity, it is possible to think, to see, and to demonstrate harmony. How can that be when one constantly hears and sees inharmony?

Perfection is the only reality, because God's creation is perfect, complete, and spiritual. There is not a particle of imperfection in God's glorious kingdom. Imperfection and all that it entails is the deception, the suggestion of mortal mind arguing that the five material senses and their evidence are real, that distress is true, that lack is actual, and that enmity is natural. We must not listen to these arguments because we know that all that is true, real, actual, and natural proceeds from God, good, and is available for all to perceive and enjoy through spiritual sense this and every moment.
