Recently in a medical magazine there appeared an interesting article on faith-healing written by a well-known physician, who described in detail the healing of three so-called incurable organic diseases, brought about solely by the faith of the patients in the doctors treating them. He said that "faith is the most potent remedy."
In his own experience, after practicing medicine for a number of years, the writer became more and more convinced that healings were taking place owing more to the faith the patients had in him than to the medicines prescribed. This was proved to be so through his experimenting with several patients, giving them only a sugar and water mixture. These results from medical experiments are interesting to those studying Christian Science. They show the mental nature of all disease, and the power which thinking has over the human body, and aid in shattering faith in material means as curative agents. Assuredly, we should turn our thought more earnestly to Christian Science, wherein is found the Master's way of healing, namely, through true knowledge of the power of God.
By a close study of Mrs. Eddy's writings, with the aid of the Concordances, we can find many references to faith as a mental requirement. These references awaken us to the fact that there is no inherent curative power or property in the drug or medicine, and thereby help to destroy human faith in matter as a remedy. On page 373 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader says, "If we are Christians on all moral questions, but are in darkness as to the physical exemption which Christianity includes, then we must have more faith in God on this subject and be more alive to His promises."
