"Christian Science does heal!" Often I had heard this said in Wednesday evening testimony meetings. This statement caused me to wonder what was meant by the testifiers. I had been taught in Sunday school of the healing power of Christian Science, and I had heard hundreds of testimonies of this healing power; but the question persisted. The answer to this query came when I began to be grateful for some of my own healings. I then found myself saying: "Is it any wonder they say, 'Christian Science does heal'? They mean they have proved and demonstrated its healing efficacy." They, like myself, had used the truths as taught by Mrs. Eddy in her writings, and had been healed.
Some years ago I attended a Christian Science lecture when I was very disheartened and sick; for four years I had been suffering from one form of error or another, and at that time I was suffering from indigestion and criticism of my fellow man. The subject of the lecture was "The Lord's Prayer." The lecture was proving to be unusually beneficial to me, for I was hungry for the truth, since for four years I had not thought it necessary to attend Sunday school or church. Then the speaker came to the line, "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors," with its spiritual interpretation by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 17,) "And Love is reflected in love." As the lecturer explained this, the realization came to me that the thoughts of Love must be felt within; that I must express loving thoughts to my fellow man before I could see good in him. Needless to say, with the realization of these truths the sickness and the critical thoughts vanished from my consciousness. The darkness of hatred and error could not remain where thoughts of Love had entered. This experience took place several years ago, but I am still realizing the healing power of the truth, "And Love is reflected in love," gained from that lecture.
I should also like to express my gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, for the stand she took against the material thinking of mankind in presenting her discovery, Christian Science, to the world; for the faithful work of practitioners; for membership in a branch church, with which I am able to serve actively; and to be able to say, humbly, Christian Science does heal!—Seattle, Washington.
