For some time I have felt that it is my privilege and joy to write a testimony of the many healings which my family and I have had through Christian Science. Often the good received has been from our own study and careful application of it; at other times we have called upon a practitioner for aid. In either case healing has followed when the rules of Christian Science, as taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, have been honestly followed.
My husband was healed of what is commonly called Bright's disease, after the doctors had given him only a few months to live. One was a well-known physician, an old friend of our family. It was stated that there was more albumen present in the kidneys than had ever been seen in such cases. I was a student of Christian Science at the time, and although I did not try to bring my influence to bear unduly, on my recommendation a Christian Science practitioner was called. The healing, however, was not experienced at that time, and my husband resorted again to materia medica. Then, not being cured, he finally decided to try Christian Science once more, and was healed at last by radically relying on the truth. He was later given a laboratory examination and rated one hundred per cent. In spite of the long struggle with disease, his healing seemed to be instantaneous. For weeks he had eaten nothing, was unable to retain even water, and yet one morning he came down to breakfast, healed; his whole appearance was one of rugged health. An aunt, who saw him that morning, was healed of an inharmonious condition that had annoyed her for years. It is impossible to relate our gratitude for the healing or how farreaching it has been in its good effects upon others.
Our small son was healed of the effects of an accident which was caused by a stone being thrown directly at him, hitting his eye in such a manner as to cut the eyeball through the middle and the flesh underneath. He was healed by the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. My husband and I were away at the time, and the surgeon who was called took stitches only in the eye. The practitioner, who remained with the child all night, deserves much gratitude for her loyal work. The same child has also been healed quickly of so-called contagious diseases. I have found, for myself, that some faults of disposition have yielded through the study of Christian Science, and I have been wonderfully protected when accidents have taken place.
