Five years of the World War left...

From the September 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Five years of the World War left me a nervous, morose, and temperamental wreck. To alleviate these conditions I had resorted to materia medica and to every form of worldliness, but these gave no permanent relief. Later, when ill with a tenacious disease, I was led to read my Bible, which I had not done seriously for twenty years, and in a feeble way I asked God to help me. I little thought anything would come of doing so; but as Mrs. Eddy says, on page 13 of Science and Health, "If our petitions are sincere, we labor for what we ask; and our Father, who seeth in secret, will reward us openly." Being led to the study of Christian Science was my reward, and for the last twelve years it has been my only guide in my profession, in my home life, and in overcoming every sort of discordant condition.

Christian Science was a constant comforter and healing agent in an acute problem in which unhappiness, injustice, resentment, jealousy, and hatred tried to upset my life. This healing taught me not to return evil for evil, even in my thinking, but to know evil's nothingness. I try to prove my religion practically by better serving, thinking, and loving, thus making practical the Golden Rule. It taught me that God's law of justice is ever operative.

Conditions such as the aftereffects of malaria, sprained ligaments, colds, influenza, neuritis, cuts, indigestion, internal pains, insomnia, and fatigue have been overcome, often instantaneously, by Christian Science through application of the rules contained in the Christian Science textbook.
