For over twenty years Christian Science has been my only physician, and during that time I have had many physical healings, some of them instantaneous, while others extended over a considerable period. Among other healings I might mention those of colds, rheumatism, bronchitis, a serious inflammation of the ear, and chapped fingertips, the last causing trouble in winter.
Pre-eminent in memory stands out the healing of a broken arm. When cycling, I met with an accident. After being helped up, I noticed that I could not move my arm. Instantly my sister and I declared the truth out loud. I remembered what Mrs. Eddy says about accidents in Science and Health, page 397, and her words on page 427, "Man is the same after as before a bone is broken or the body guillotined." Then I realized that man, an idea of God, is forever safe in God's kingdom, under His government, wherein no accidents occur. "In Science, no breakage nor dislocation can really occur" (ibid., p. 402).
When I consulted a doctor he advised me to have an X-ray made, because it was very difficult to state whether or not the arm was broken. The same evening the photograph was made and showed clearly a broken upper arm, set in perfect manner, quite straight and faultless. Instantaneous healing had taken place. I experienced hardly any pain and could use my arm very soon, much to the surprise of the doctor. To my sister he said, "Much is due to the mentality of the patient." Later, when the case was almost out of thought, he said to my daughter: "You belong to a peculiar family, not easily alarmed. I remember your mother with an arm totally broken and healed so quickly. A remarkable case!" Proof that it had made a deep impression on him.
