Testimonies of Healing

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and...

From the May 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who for-giveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." How grateful I am for this passage of Scripture, for these promises have been realized in my experience!

About eighteen years ago I was confined to my home and was part of the time in bed suffering from nervous exhaustion with all of the attending discomforts, such as stomach trouble, sick headaches, anaemia, indigestion, heart trouble, and a great sense of fear. Believing that God many times disciplined His children through sickness and disease, I was trying to exercise all the courage and patience I could under these conditions, although I thought I was living very nearly in accordance with His will. I had been under the care of a physician for nearly two years and was failing each day. Finally a member of my family was told that there would be no noticeable relief for at least another two years, as the nervous system was entirely disrupted.

At this time a very dear friend told me of a healing of gallstones which a member of her family had experienced through turning to Christian Science. It sounded wonderful and I did not doubt that it was just as she had related it to me, but I still thought my case was different. She gave me some Christian Science literature to read, but it was so unlike anything I had ever read that I quietly put it away where no one would see it, and the struggle for health still went on. How I thank God today for this friend's patience with me! She came to visit me several times in the space of two or three weeks, and would, in the course of conversation, tell me something of the joys and blessings she was daily experiencing through Christian Science. Finally one evening, following a very difficult day, when everything looked hopeless, my good friend came in, talked at length to me, and I was ready to listen. That evening I grasped the thought that God did not make sickness or disease; that He knew only good for His children; that I was His child and could therefore claim my health and strength at once, these being eternal and ever present. I was immediately restored to a natural, normal state of activity and resumed my household duties, which I had not been able to do for some time.
