I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me, and is doing for all mankind. I first became interested in Christian Science in 1895. Two years before this I heard a woman tell a friend that Christian Science healed people just as Jesus had done. This did not greatly impress me at that time, because I had always believed Jesus' statement, "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Still my prayers were not always answered. My sister attended a Christian Science service, and the next day, when she found me in great pain, she told me that it wasn't real. Her assertion did not help me any, but it did create in me a desire to go and hear what this teaching was like.
The first time I attended the services, it seemed to me that this was indeed a correct explanation of Christ Jesus' teachings. I began to read the periodicals and to attend the lectures and the church services. I also read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After some months had passed I realized that I was no longer troubled with catarrh. Before this I was seldom able to breathe through my nose.
When my son was about sixteen months old he was taken very ill with scarlet fever. I asked a practitioner for help, and the boy was healed in one treatment. At another time he had convulsions. Again one treatment healed him. After he went to the Christian Science Sunday School he was able to apply the truths which he had learned.
