It was many years before I realized my need of something more than I had gained from my religious beliefs and material thinking. I desired healing and a higher sense of life, and I felt ready to give up physicians and medicine for that purpose. I had been a semi-invalid for many years, and all methods of healing along material lines had made me worse. But a change had been taking place in my consciousness; God was preparing my heart for something better.
In my search for light in Christian Science about God, who loves and heals, I first observed what Mrs. Eddy calls in Science and Health (p. 109) "the three great verities of Spirit." I spent three weeks in prayer and meditation over these words, "omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience." My demonstration was made when I realized the ever-presence of God. I experienced a beautiful healing, and have never since believed in the reality of sickness.
The step taken seemed great—the first on the ladder of ascending thought in Christian Science. Our beloved Leader writes (ibid., p. 560)"The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." When Truth found me, I felt poor in spirit, needing growth and spiritual unfoldment. Approaching our Father, I found Him ever ready to direct and guide His child.
