CHRISTIAN SCIENCE heals. This is attested by the fact of the Christian Science movement itself—by the testimonies given in its churches and periodicals, and by steady growth. Were its claim of healing an empty promise, its thousands of grateful adherents would not continue to attend its churches throughout the world; neither, indeed, would its church edifices have been built.
But there are those who claim that they have "tried Christian Science," or are still endeavoring to "apply it," and have not been healed. Such may comment, in substance, I have earnestly studied Christian Science and persistently declared the truth— then, why am I not healed? Clearly, a better understanding of the absolute truth revealed by Christian Science, and of what a healing in Christian Science consists, is required by such questioners.
The truth revealed by Christian Science is of God's allness, His infinitude, in which there can be nothing besides Him and His ideas—no other Life, Truth, substance; no other Mind. Christian Science reveals man to be the likeness of God, hence as perfect as God Himself is perfect. The man of God's creating is never in distress, sick, or a sinner. That is the truth. And nothing short of knowing man as spiritual and perfect is knowing the truth concerning man. To know and declare the truth, then, as revealed through Christian Science, is to know that man has nothing from which he needs to be healed. When one reaches this comprehension of man, he will no longer ask, Why am I not healed? for the trouble will have disappeared in the apprehension of God's infinitude and man's perfection.
