SUPPLY FOR OUR CHURCH

From the November 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

OUR branch churches at times are confronted with various problems. One problem that may seem to be difficult to solve is that of supply; and this may be due in part to the fact that mortals look upon money as substance. We are prone to think of the smallness of contributions and collections as the cause of lack, whereas in reality supply is spiritual. To correct this sense of lack, we must first correct the error of belief which is responsible for it. Indeed, there may be many of error's presentations which should be uncovered, denied, and replaced by the truth.

First of all, we must see that supply is to be realized by each and all of us, just as the true Church is individually discerned. Mrs. Eddy, on page 583 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," defines the real Church, in part, as "the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle." She also says, "The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick."

The true Church can be established in individual consciousness only as one accepts and expresses spiritual ideas, God's ideas. Thus, the errors that seem to us to be manifested in our church must disappear as all the members individually overcome them.
