I am humbly grateful for the many blessings which Christian Science has brought to me and mine. I first heard the words "Christian Science" in 1911. For about fifteen years I was bitterly prejudiced, and avoided Christian Science and Christian Scientists. During this time I underwent four major and several minor operations, and spent weeks in hospitals; had hemorrhage of the lungs, following influenza; wore a metal brace for about ten years; and also suffered from stomach trouble, said to be ulcers; severe headaches which lasted for days at a time; constipation, insomnia, and other difficulties. While I was going through these experiences, my husband was killed, and I had to give up my home. Then my only niece passed on before I received word of her illness.
I rented an apartment in the home of a former schoolmate, whom I had not met for years, and was told that she and her husband were both Christian Scientists. After living happily in this harmonious home for nine months, I decided they had something that I needed, so I began to investigate. Someone warned me against the Manual of The Mother Church. I purchased a copy, but failed to find in it anything that I could condemn, and my next step was to purchase a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
When I took the book home, my mother wept and told friends that I had turned infidel. My father pleaded with me never to leave the church in which I had been reared. My sister refused to tell her husband about a healing because, she said, she did not want him to think that I had entirely lost my reason. Now they are all reading Christian Science publications and have asked for and received Christian Science treatment more than once.
