"THE WISDOM THAT IS FROM ABOVE"

From the March 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The teachings of Christian Science are definite and final on the subject of Mind. God is Mind. The perception and acceptance of the fact that infinite and immortal Mind is one consciousness, filling all space, separates the chaff of mortal illusion from the wheat of spiritualmindedness; and the delusion that there is more, than one Mind, the lie that has deceived mankind throughout the centuries, is found out and destroyed. For all that is unlike God, good, comes from belief in a mind apart from God. All men in all nations can be freed from bondage to false consciousness, love their neighbor as themselves, and enjoy their true sonship and spiritual inheritance here and now through the understanding of the one all-inclusive Mind.

A great aid to this apprehension appears in the epistle of James, where we find statements which enable us to distinguish between the qualities of immortal Mind and of so-called mortal mind. He writes, "Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom." And he states, "The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." Herein we have a brief but comprehensive description of immortal wisdom. James likewise speaks of the wisdom that "descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish," and adds that "where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on pages 115 and 116 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," under the headings "Scientific Translation of Immortal Mind" and "Scientific Translation of Mortal Mind," has given instruction which is indispensable for study, enlightenment, healing, and progress Spiritward.
