TO THE PRODIGAL'S MOTHER

From the March 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Does your anxious mother-heart
Yearn to shield your traveler dear?
Are you fearful, as he goes,
Lest his journey hold a tear?
Has he listened to the truth,
And then seemed to give no heed?
Oh, remember! God has blessed
Soil and sower, plant and seed.

Loose your traveler—leave him free!
He is God's, no less than you.
Should he wander—seem to fall—
'Tis his way to learn the true.
Love, the Father, draws each one
Who may stray in countries far,
Wipes away all travel stain
And erases every scar.

God is with him, keeping watch,
Tender Parent of us all;
Could He fail a loved child—
He who notes a sparrow's fall?
Trust to Him your traveler, then,
Trust His ways ye know not of.
None can go beyond the reach
Of the Father's boundless love!
