For many years I have enjoyed the benefits of the study and application of Christian Science, and through progressive understanding of its teachings have received countless blessings; therefore, the following testimony is given as an expression of my gratitude and appreciation for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and her discovery.
On page 258 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy makes this wonderful statement: "A mortal, corporeal, or finite conception of God cannot embrace the glories of limitless, incorporeal Life and Love. Hence the unsatisfied human craving for something better, higher, holier, than is afforded by a material belief in a physical God and man." It was this unsatisfied human craving for a better and higher understanding of God which finally led me, after much seeking through various books on religion, to the study of Science and Health. As a child I had received strict religious training, and after reaching womanhood was an earnest student of the Bible. All through my youth I had great faith in prayer, but there came a time in my human experience when my prayers seemed unanswered. I was beginning to see, dimly however, that there was something wrong with my concept of God.
About this time it was my blessing and privilege to meet a faithful student of Christian Science, who, by her example more than words, convinced me that she had what I desired. Thus, when she asked me to read her copy of the textbook and said it would answer my questions better than she could, I gladly consented. I look back with heartfelt gratitude to that event as the greatest blessing that could come to me. The spiritual awakening to Truth brought God much closer to me, and gave me a greater desire to know more of Jesus and his teachings; it revealed to me the spiritual meaning of the Bible as I had never known it before.
