Christian Science was brought to my attention over thirty-five years ago, when I was in "the valley of the shadow of death." After trying all the material remedies which offered any hope, I was sick, helpless, and ready to die. All had failed.
I was sent, as a last hope, to one of the best medical practitioners; and I received my "death sentence" from him. After he had departed, I asked my parents to retire, that I might be alone to pray in the silence of midnight. I began by praying for light, and the longer I prayed the nearer God's presence seemed to me, until at last all pain ceased and the great light of God encompassed me. This was indeed a foretaste of heaven, and for the first time in many months I felt rested, and soon slept peacefully.
The next morning my dear mother was joyous to know that I had slept through the night. When I asked for some breakfast, she reminded me that the doctor had said I should be unable to digest it. I ate the food requested with no ill effects, and praised God.
