Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." When I was a small child, a dear grandmother, who' was a Christian Scientist, kept her light of faith and understanding so brightly shining in our home, even in the midst of misunderstanding and opposition, that now I have come to glorify our Father in heaven. Her good works influenced my life, though I did not realize this until years later.
Gently, but firmly, divine Love has led me, step by step, out of bondage to false beliefs and fear, into a clearer sense of Truth and its ever-present availability to meet every human need. When apathy or resistance has seemed to obstruct my spiritual growth, I have been enabled to prove more than once that perseverance unfailingly wins.
For innumerable physical healings I am deeply grateful. Once, when I was discouraged because of no instantaneous healings, the following experience occurred. A dentist was preparing for a gold inlay which required extensive drilling. Working too swiftly, his drill slipped and laid the tongue wide open. After a moment of right thinking on my part, it was possible for him to complete the work. Later, it became evident that the tongue could not function at all, because of swelling and pain. This alarmed me, since the next day there was to be a rehearsal, and the following day I had a duty to fulfill as church soloist. In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we read (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I asked a friend for help in Christian Science, and through our reliance on the truth, the flesh immediately began to adhere. The next morning the spot was completely healed, and was normally smooth. I thanked God for this instantaneous healing, and since then demonstrations of the power of Truth have been quicker. Previously I had been healed of a great dread of the dentist's chair.
