"Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." We find these words by Mary Baker Eddy on page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Therefore, I feel that the time has come for me to express my gratitude to our Leader for giving to us this healing religion.
There are so many things about Christian Science for which I am grateful that if I were to relate all of them it would run into many pages, so I shall enumerate only a few of them. I am truly grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, for although after leaving Sunday school I drifted away from Christian Science, the sure foundation which was laid during my attendance there remained. Having known this religion during all of my childhood, I could not long be away from it.
There came a time when physical suffering, diagnosed as stomach ulcers, caused me to turn again to Christian Science. I called upon a practitioner for help. I shall never forget the message of our Leader on pages 59 and 60 of "Unity of Good," which the practitioner asked me to study at that time: "Jesus came to rescue men from these very illusions to which he seemed to conform: from the illusion which calls sin real, and man a sinner, needing a Saviour; the illusion which calls sickness real, and man an invalid, needing a physician; the illusion that death is as real as Life. From such thoughts—mortal inventions, one and all—Christ Jesus came to save men, through everpresent and eternal good."
