Testimonies of Healing

When my mother became interested in...

From the September 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When my mother became interested in Christian Science, forty years ago, she acquired a spiritual estate which has not diminished through usage, but which has been enlarged and enriched by her faithful service for others. During this period I have shared abundantly in that estate, having used no material methods, but depending wholly on God for the cure of sickness. This alone would be sufficient cause for endless gratitude to Christian Science and to Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder. I have, however, had many experiences in the effective operation of this Science; and for the benefit of others, I am happy to relate two, of entirely different character.

During the period commonly called the depression I found myself without employment, the first such occasion in my business career. Having many acquaintances and friends in industry, I turned to them personally for help, and finally to the services of a technical bureau. After several months of such human effort, I found a position, but it lasted only a short time. This helped to bring me to my true senses, and in the new light I turned not to friends, but wholeheartedly to God, as we are taught to do in Christian Science.

Shortly thereafter, while in another city, and continuing to look to God for help and guidance, I received a letter from a firm back home, requesting that I see them promptly regarding a business opportunity. I had not been aware of this opening, nor had the individual I was to see known that I was unemployed. Immediately upon my return an interview was arranged, and I started work on an assignment which has ever since been most profitable. I found later that, although there were many applicants for the position, my name had repeatedly come to the one in charge, and he was compelled to make considerable inquiry in order to locate me, thus proving that God, the one infinite Mind, is able to accomplish whatever is necessary in the solution of human problems.
