I have received so many benefits from...

From the January 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have received so many benefits from my study of Christian Science that I feel my testimony of gratitude to God is long overdue.

I first turned to the Christ, Truth, about sixteen years ago when I started to earn my own living. I was away from home, and when circumstances became more than I could bear, my mother sent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I used to sit with tears of agony in my eyes trying to understand the import of its message and its application to our human needs. That right desire to understand the truth was answered in a wonderful way when I was offered a post in my home town, where I was able to attend church services and have helpful talks with friends. Using the truths taught by Christian Science, I learned to stick to the work I had adopted and to overcome all difficulties. Within recent years I have been amazed at the things which Mind has enabled me to do, things which formerly I should have deemed impossible. Nervousness and lack of confidence are being overcome. I am grateful that in these days when there is so much to do, I am able to attend to a full-time job, run a home, and find time to help with church work. I find that when I put God first, all things fall into their natural place.

The truths in the Bible, as revealed by Mrs. Eddy, have healed me of many physical difficulties, including the need of wearing glasses for fine work, deafness caused through wax in the ear, foot trouble and corns, and fear of the hot sun. With regard to the last-mentioned, I was helped by a testimony given at a Wednesday testimony meeting. The speaker quoted Mrs. Eddy's definition of "sun" on page 595 of Science and Health, "The symbol of Soul governing man,—of Truth, Life, and Love," and added that there was no afflictive heat in or effect from a mere symbol. I recalled this thought when next I was on holiday in Switzerland, and found that I no longer needed to wear a hat when in the hot sun. I also learned to enjoy the sun instead of fearing it as I formerly had. I was also healed of a painful rash on my hands and arms, from which I used to suffer every summer.
