RECONVERSION

From the January 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE human problems involved in converting a wartime economy into a peacetime state are sometimes confusing and perplexing when they are considered from the standpoint of outward appearances. To many this process of reconversion is beset by unknown factors which may cause them to look at the future with fear and trembling. The manufacturer may wonder what products to produce, while his employee may wonder about the stability of his employment. Neither one thinks he sees what to do to protect his future from loss or failure. In fact, the future of any material condition or circumstance is always unpredictable. Whether faced by war or peace, the human mind, in its ignorance of the divine presence, often sees nothing ahead but danger, confusion, and trouble.

But this does not mean that there is no other prospect for men, because there is. This prospect is to be found in the understanding of God and His Christ, which points the way out of the chaos of material evidences into the ever-increasing harmony presaged by spiritual truth. Neither doubt, dismay, confusion, trouble, nor consternation confronts the reflection of God. The real man lives in the consciousness of his divine birthright. He knows the forever presence, power, and love of God. He knows also that there is no contrary presence or power.

Reconversion considered spiritually may be said to involve a turning away from the false sense of man as material, that is, subject to chance or change, to the true sense of man as wholly spiritual, forever at one with his Father-Mother God. The understanding of man's forever oneness with God assures the Christian Scientist of the constant availability of the wisdom with which to solve every problem. Man cannot be in ignorance while God, Mind, knows. Therefore men can find the way to harmony and success in human affairs only by turning to the one Mind for wisdom and guidance. Christ Jesus said, "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."
