It has been my inestimable privilege to have had Christian Science in my home all my life. Though I have encountered storms, the "still small voice" has encouraged me and led me to strive earnestly for "the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."
I have had abundant health, but there have been times when the power of Truth has been called upon to correct physical conditions, and this power has not been found wanting. On one occasion, when a boy, I dived into shallow water and injured my side on some rocks. After several days my side showed extensive swelling and discoloration and was painful. My mother and I worked for one afternoon as we are taught in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At the end of this time the swelling subsided and healthy conditions were restored.
About five years ago I awoke early one morning with a severe attack of influenza. I determined to "stand porter at the door of thought," as our beloved Leader admonishes us (Science and Health, p. 392). Her words (ibid., p. 261) were a tower of strength to me then as always, "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." After I had worked metaphysically for perhaps three quarters of an hour the pain lessened. Though mortal mind wanted me to remain in bed, I arose. I accomplished my day's work fairly comfortably and returned home to do more metaphysical work. At about ten o'clock that evening, just as if someone had said, "You can go now," I was released completely from every symptom of influenza.
