Testimonies of Healing

It was through the healing of a sister...

From the May 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was through the healing of a sister that I became interested in Christian Science. She had not been well for years, and physicians had told her that after a needed operation was performed she must spend her days as an invalid. I was with her when she was under the care of a physician in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and although treatments were given every day, her health did not improve. I also witnessed the healing which came about through the work of a consecrated Christian Science practitioner, who, when she heard my sister's story, advised that she try Christian Science. After all else had failed she recovered through Christian Science treatment. My mother, too, was healed of kidney trouble by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

After I became interested in Christian Science I was healed of a nervous breakdown. It was a slow healing and required much study and effort on my part. Very few people expected me to recover. Since then I have had many instantaneous healings. Severe cases of poisoning and stomach disorder were overcome. One of the citations which helped greatly in realizing my first healing is found on page 31 of Science and Health: "It is the living Christ, the practical Truth, which makes Jesus 'the resurrection and the life' to all who follow him in deed." I know "the practical Truth" is with me every day.

I cannot be too grateful to God for membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Massachusetts, and in a branch church, and for the advantages of class instruction. It is only through daily deeds of kindness, love, and helpfulness that one can show his gratitude and reflect the light which Christian Science gives.—
