If the Christian warrior is to "fight the good fight of faith" (I Tim. 6:12), of which Paul speaks, he must first have a firm foundation of spiritual understanding upon which to base his reasoning and work out his salvation. The first step toward obtaining the required wisdom is the sincere desire and resolve to seek with his whole heart for a clearer and higher concept of the allness and goodness of God, the perfect creator, the Supreme Ruler and Lawmaker.
The question will naturally arise. Just who am I, then, and what part do I play in God's great plan? Mary Baker Eddy has explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 475) how the student can reason correctly in regard to man's relationship to God. She writes: "The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man . is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science."
Can anything be of more importance to an individual than to have the right idea of God and to know that man is governed by divine Principle? Actually all that is really true about anyone is what God knows of that one as His spiritual idea, always perfect—never material.
