The thoughts which men think determine their lives. To recognize this is essential, but it is not sufficient. Only he who knows what to accept as true, what to reject as untrue, enters into the consciousness of reality. The Science of Christ assures us that this can be done now. When it is learned that God, the one infinite, ever-present Mind, is the Mind of man, fear, confusion, contradiction, are seen to be without cause or reality. Then the divine ideal of man is no longer regarded as impractical and remote. The individual sees himself as he is, in the light of Godlikeness, and is swift to detect the arguments which would rob him of his spiritual identity.
Men have dismissed or disregarded the call inherent in Jesus' words (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Yet the model and the command are here set forth. In the intelligence, power, and desire which Mind bestows, and upon which one can draw without measure, we may well ask ourselves, What cannot be attained?
To be aware of the infinite capabilities and possibilities of man is the first step towards demonstrating them in human experience. It was to this purpose that Jesus willingly laid down his life. Mankind has consistently dismissed or disregarded the possibility of Godlikeness, notwithstanding the unequivocal statement in the first chapter of Genesis that "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." The acceptance of humanity as fallen, a theory wholly contradictory to Jesus' admonition to be perfect, and triumphantly repudiated in his every evidence and assurance of divine fatherhood and sonship, must be abandoned if men would enter here and now into their birthright of dominion.
