The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, has always had a place in our home. However, it is only during the last few years that the "key" to the Scriptures, and the clear presentation of eternal Truth contained in the textbook, have been applied to improve family relations, business opportunities, and further individual progress.
A Christian Science practitioner guided me to a more diligent study of the textbook, together with Mrs. Eddy's other writings. The thorough study of the allegory, "The Fruit of Spirit," by our Leader, beginning on page 323of "Miscellaneous Writings," healed me of the false appetite for both alcohol and tobacco. Especially helpful were the words (p. 328): "He alone ascends the hill of Christian Science who follows the Way-shower, the spiritual presence and idea of God. Whatever obstructs the way,—causing to stumble, fall, or faint, those mortals who are striving to enter the path,—divine Love will remove; and uplift the fallen and strengthen the weak."
This study led to more active church attendance and subsequent membership, with the privilege of serving as usher in a branch church and The Mother Church in Boston, Massachusetts. During this experience I was privileged to meet and later marry a Christian Scientist, a member of the same branch church and The Mother Church. This experience has brought happiness and progress, proving true our Leader's words (Science and Health, p. 64), "Marriage should signify a union of hearts."
