A PLACE PREPARED

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

From the November 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE evening, after cycling all day, two girls were approaching a village where they hoped to find accommodation for the night. One of them, a Christian Scientist, felt a great sense of joy as they neared this little town, for even as she thought of the need for rest, refreshment, and shelter came these words from the twenty-third Psalm: "Thou preparest a table before me."

She knew that here the word "Thou" referred to God, divine Love, the tender Father-Mother of us all. As a clearer meaning of this Biblical promise dawned upon her, it seemed as though she was conscious of the voice of God speaking to her, so that she confidently affirmed, "I have a place prepared of my Father." In Christian Science we learn that the divine message from God to man is the Christ, Truth. Although the houses were filled with servicemen, and no lodging place seemed available, this spiritual truth precluded all sense of anxiety. Soon the outward manifestation, which abundantly met the human need, became apparent.

The lesson learned during this experience has never been forgotten, and has brought repeated blessings. It is this: we have, each one of us, a place prepared of our Father. All may find congenial employment and harmonious living conditions as the fact is acknowledged that divine Love alone places and directs His idea, man. On pages 3 and 4 of her book "Unity of Good," after writing of the allness of God, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says: "Now this self-same God is our helper. He pities us. He has mercy upon us, and guides every event of our careers." Since this is so, we can refuse to accept every erroneous condition that material sense testimony presents.
