I give thanks to God, the Giver of all good, for Mrs. Eddy and for Christian Science, which she gave to us. I am grateful for every avenue through which Science reaches the searcher for truth, for church membership and class instruction, for the comfort and protection Love has given me, and for the fact that it has healed me of fear and loneliness.
While alone in my isolated summer cottage I was suddenly taken with a severe case of inflammatory rheumatism. I telephoned a practitioner in Chicago, and help was lovingly given. I was cared for by a neighbor until a friend came and brought me home by ambulance and stretcher in a baggage car.
For some days there was not much improvement, for I rested on the help of the practitioner instead of being active myself until I heard a relative say, "Can't she be sent to a hospital?" I began earnestly to declare my oneness, as God's idea, with my Father-Mother God, to think more deeply on the truths the practitioner pointed out, and to know the truth of this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 394): "Knowledge that we can accomplish the good we hope for, stimulates the system to act in the direction which Mind points out."
