Recently I have had daily proof of God's care, and of what an understanding of Christian Science will do in times of distress.
There are two specific healings I wish to mention. The first occurred in the early part of 1945. I noticed a lump in my right breast, and all sorts of fears and false conclusions entered my thinking. I was unable to overcome my fear, so I went to see a practitioner whose complete confidence in Truth immediately stilled my fears and uplifted my thought. I am sure now that I was healed in that one visit, but I asked for one more treatment. I am certainly thankful for this healing, and wish to express gratitude, not in mere words, but in any active and constructive work I can do for the Christian Science movement.
The second healing was a most wonderful one to me, and I still stand in awe of it. When my son, as an officer in the Navy, left for the South Pacific, I was very fearful, and although I daily studied the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly, I found myself gradually going down until I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. A faithful practitioner was working for me, but it was a trying experience. In order to show what Christian Science did for me, I shall mention the nature of my work. I am an organist in a mortuary, "giving solace to the sorrowful," as a practitioner once told me to think of it. I was called upon to play at funerals for men in all branches of service, something that I never could have done without the support of Science. However, Truth destroyed every phase of error, and not only was I brought safely through this experience, but my son was beautifully protected. I am grateful for the work of the practitioners, who stand as sentinels of duty ready to give help whenever it is needed. And I am also grateful for the better understanding of God and man's relationship to Him that I gained from this experience.
