In my early years I greatly longed to know God; and I searched and prayed much to glimpse and understand the power and presence of God which Jesus demonstrated. For the apostle said of all mankind "that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us" (Acts 17:27).
When I accepted Christian Science in 1919, I found it to be the religion by which the "unknown God" is made known; that the mission of this great Cause is one with Christianity, to make mankind better spiritually—yea, healthier and holier. For this newly found religion I am deeply thankful.
Many and varied are the healings which I have had: of car sickness, smallpox, pneumonia, and sprains; also protection has been experienced from unseen dangers. One Sunday evening my ankle was badly sprained from a fall. Until about four o'clock the following Wednesday I was unable to use the foot or wear a shoe. This passage in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science (p. 495), arrested my attention: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony."
