THE RULES OF CHRISTIAN PRACTICE

From the March 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The practice of Christian Science proves the wondrous spiritual facts of universal harmony, and does this by means of a fixed Principle and given rules. The Principle, or First Cause, is divine Love, God, and the rules of this divine Principle are demonstrated in Christian Science practice.

In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," are found all the rules necessary for demonstrating spiritual truth—rules which were discovered, proved, and recorded by its author, Mary Baker Eddy. Here we find inspiring statements of the Christian rules of loving God supremely and one's neighbor as oneself; rules of self-abnegation, meekness, honesty, and goodness. In addition to these Christian rules, Christian Science reveals the means of separating that which is derived from God from all that is spurious and illusive. And it adds the basic scientific rule of realizing the allness of God and the nothingness of matter.

Christian Science furnishes the elements of true prayer. Without these any prayerful mental work is incomplete. The housewife may know the measurements and rules for making a cake, but without proper ingredients her efforts will fail. The elements of successful prayer include honesty, pure desire, faith, reverence, and goodness.
