I have a great deal for which to thank...

From the September 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have a great deal for which to thank God. Christian Science came into our home when I was six years of age. During the past fifteen years I have witnessed numerous proofs of the power of Truth changing, renewing, and revitalizing existence, both for me and for those around me.

Early I was taught to listen attentively to the reading of a portion of the Lesson-Sermon daily, then to read a section myself each day; and gradually I became so interested that I now study the whole Lesson-Sermon each morning during a quiet period before rising. I experience great inspiration and happiness at these times. I am grateful that I have had the moral courage to continue this practice no matter where or with whom I have happened to be.

I entered the Sunday School a year after Christian Science had come to our home, and I can never be grateful enough for the help and instruction I received. I became a member of The Mother Church when I was twelve years of age, and by adhering to its rules I have been protected from yielding to the temptations of smoking and social drinking. Whenever faced with the temptation to submit, for the sake of peace or popularity, I have thought, "I have given my promise to abstain," and each time I have become stronger for being true to the knowledge that purity and steadfastness are demanded of the members of The Mother Church. I am truly happy to be able to do all that I can to serve God and this great Cause.
