The testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals have been so helpful to me that I should like to add mine, hoping it will benefit some who may be struggling with a similar experience.
During my early childhood, my mother suffered from attacks of quinsy at intervals of two or three months. As I grew into young womanhood, I found myself fearing that I should have to go through the same experience. As Job said (Job 3:25), "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me." Not until after I became a student of Christian Science did the condition make its appearance. I called my mother, and she, not being interested in Christian Science, made the remark that she hoped I would not have to go through life suffering as she had done.
I called a practitioner for help but got very little relief, and the disease ran its course. A few months later I had a second attack, and I called another practitioner. Although I was ill a shorter period of time, I was discouraged and fearful. I tried to work as we are taught in Christian Science, but did not succeed in overcoming the fear, because the mental picture seemed so real to me. When the third attack came, I realized that there must be something in my thinking that should be destroyed, and I prayed for the uncovering of the error. Then the question came to me, "Who is your father and mother?" And the answer came, "God is your Father and Mother." When I realized this truth the healing was instantaneous. That was over thirty years ago, and I have never had a return of the trouble. Through this realization also a bad temper was healed.
