The Christian Scientist is proving that God's beneficence is never absent, never held in abeyance; that His goodness is never reserved for a convenient time or season. On the contrary, prayer—communion with God—lifting thought to the height of spiritual consciousness, brings prompt results, manifested by healing, joyousness, and sustained peace—man's eternal possessions. The eternal perfection of man is a Scripturally recorded and logical fact. Man's unchangeable uprightness and completeness is a basic truth which never varies. No human belief can affect this God-ordained verity.
Understanding prayer does not remain unanswered. Communion with God brings fruitage, progress commensurate with one's spiritual understanding. Nothing is closer to man than God, the omnipotent and omnipresent, in whom man lives and forever manifests his being. There is no barrier between God and man. Man's oneness with God is fixed as an eternal fact. It remains forever unchanged, but sometimes may seem to be obscured by the beliefs of the so-called carnal or mortal mind, which have no support or reality in divine intelligence. This unity with the divine ever-presence is not theoretical, but is a spiritual and demonstrable fact.
The realization, even in a measure, of the presence of God, infinite and omnipotent good, as revealed in Christian Science, dispels the clouds of material sense and brings to light the spiritual verity that man in the divine likeness is inseparable from his Maker. Spirit, Mind, by the very nature of its infinity of good is our refuge and strength. In the degree that one recognizes this truth, the claim of mortal mind that man is material, not spiritual, is nullified. One cannot meditate on Spirit and matter at the same time, for it is impossible to serve God and mammon. To draw nigh to God, as the Bible says, results in that consciousness of man's at-one-ment with the Father which enables anyone who seeks the truth to demonstrate his God-given security and eternal uprightness.
