Through many years Christian Science has been our physician in times of illness, our Comforter in times of sorrow, our friend and counselor in times of stress; and, indeed, no day passes without abundant evidence of its healing, guiding, and protecting influence in all our affairs.
When a schoolgirl I was overtaken by what the family physician termed a nervous condition bordering on St. Vitus's dance. Through the help of a sister who had become interested in Christian Science, I was healed of this condition and resumed my normal schoolwork. This healing took place over forty years ago, and there has been no further trace of this trouble. I found in this experience that the faithful study of our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and regular attendance at the church services are invaluable aids to healing.
The solving of problems arising from wrongs and injustice on the part of those of whom better things were expected, has enabled us to learn invaluable lessons, proving the truth of what Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 444): "Immortals, or God's children in divine Science, are one harmonious family; but mortals, or the 'children of men' in material sense, are discordant and ofttimes false brethren." Problems of supply, disposition, and temperament; illnesses of various kinds, including pneumonia, influenza, blood poisoning, and ptomaine poisoning; broken bones and sprains, together with ills that were never named, have been overcome through the application of Christian Science. One thing for which we are increasingly grateful is that we early learned to do our own work in Christian Science. Occasions have been rare when it has been necessary to ask for help from practitioners. We are, however, most grateful for the loving response and ready help always available when this has been necessary.
