Poems

Onward! Upward!

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

From the November 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the way of Mind's unfolding
As its treasures come to light,
So they bring to our perception
Radiant beauty—wondrous might.
Science opens wide this vision
To the student's eager gaze,
Lights the torch of inspiration
Guiding into wisdom's ways.

Here we prove Mind's ever-presence,
Learn its mandates to obey,
Learn to fill our hearts with praising
For Love's blessings day by day.
Love divine is all-bestowing,
Wisdom fairer is than gold,
All of Truth is ours for seeking,
Ours to win and prove and hold.

So, with eager, joyous footsteps,
Grateful hearts, and purpose strong.
We would climb the hill of Science.
Brave in work and speech and song.
In the joy of paths ascending,
Every upward step shall prove
Faith and hope are all-achieving,
Blessed by wisdom, crowned by love.
