"I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings" (Ps. 40:1, 2). My gratitude for Christian Science is increasing daily. It certainly lifted me up "out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock."
When this religion was presented to me by a friend, I was suffering from what physicians had diagnosed as internal hernia, gall bladder trouble, fallen internal organs, constipation, and sinus trouble. I knew I had little chance of recovery, according to medical opinion, and I wanted so much to live to raise our two daughters. I accepted Science and began to study it with the help of a practitioner. After reading only a few lines, I realized that I had indeed found the way!
My healing came in about two weeks. I had many things to overcome, such as fear, worry, and belief in heredity and contagion. I was healed of the fear of death, resulting from my having been brought up in a church which taught that everlasting punishment would come to those who die in sin. What a glorious relief it was to know that "it is a sense of sin, and not a sinful soul, which is lost" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 311).
