It is difficult to know where to begin to express gratitude for Christian Science. For many years it has been my only physician, and not a day goes by that I do not say, "Thank You, God," for some further proof of His love and ever-presence. I have been more and more grateful lately for the work The Christian Science Monitor is doing in bringing to the attention of the world the necessity for more trust and brotherly love among nations and the fact that good is more powerful than evil.
My first recollection of Christian Science was when I was a small child, for I grew up in a home where a spiritually-minded mother turned to God for the solution of every problem. We lived on a large farm, far from a city, but it was a much-talked-of fact that a medical doctor was never called to our home and that the children in that home did not have colds or contagious diseases.
When I left home to go to college, my mother asked me to take with me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I did this to please my mother; but city life was very alluring and new to me, and I thought I did not need religion. When I thought of it at all, it was with the happy conviction that my mother had Christian Science and that I need never worry about her.
