"Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." So writes Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494). For the many times that divine Love has met my needs, I should like to express my deep gratitude to God.
My first healing in Christian Science was one of grief at the passing on of an only child. At the time, I knew nothing of this Science, but everything else had failed me, and I was certain that it could help me. Opiates had been given to quiet me, and when I awakened a dear friend asked if I would like to have a Christian Science practitioner, to which I said "Yes," not even knowing what a practitioner could or would do. When he came, he very lovingly talked to me about God and His great love for all His children. He quoted to me the tenth verse from Isaiah 41, and I asked him to write it down. He did so, and I clung to this verse mentally and literally, carrying it around in my hand.
Several years previous to this I had purchased a copy of the textbook, but seemed unable to understand it, so I would go to the Bible and read when things were inharmonious; but when I started to read Science and Health this time, it was with a new light. I knew I had indeed found the way, and my grief passed into joy as I began to know God as "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1)
