Testimonies of Healing

MANY years ago I became dissatisfied...

From the February 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many years ago I became dissatisfied with my church affiliation because I had observed that my prayers, earnestly made in conformity with my highest understanding, were not answered. At this time a friend urged me to take up the study of Christian Science and lent me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I did not at once start to read this precious volume, but on a particularly dark night, which might be described as "man's extremity," I picked up my Bible. It fell open to James 5:14, 15: "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, . . . and the prayer of faith shall save the sick."

I asked myself, Who are these elders? The thought came that if the prayers of Christian Scientists were answered with healing—and I had observed that they were—might not they represent "the elders of the church"? I immediately telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner of whom I had heard, and an instantaneous healing of a member of my family of a nervous affliction which physicians had pronounced incurable took place.

Having felt the presence of the healing truth, I began the earnest study of the textbook in conjunction with the Bible as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. As I studied, I was healed of nervous prostration with stomach and heart complications, periodic sick headaches, and recurrent tonsillitis, and I have since been healed of colds, burns, and bone fracture. I am daily being healed of thoughts that are unlike God.
