Testimonies of Healing

To have a knowledge, even in small...

From the February 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To have a knowledge, even in small degree, of the Science of being as taught in Christian Science is my greatest blessing. Therefore, to my Father-Mother God I owe the love and trust that know no faltering; to Christ Jesus I owe a steadfast endeavor to follow in the way he has shown to humanity ; to Mary Baker Eddy I owe the recognition of her great work, the discovery and founding of Christian Science and the writing of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It was her supreme love for God and man which enabled her to discover the Science of Christ, the Science which has enabled me to prove the statements found in the Bible and in Science and Health. Because of these truths I have known deep contentment and excellent health all my life.

When I was a child, I was healed by Christian Science treatment after awakening one morning to find I could not move my legs. By the afternoon I was as free as I had always been. A healing of a distressing condition of the eyes was brought about when my mother's fear that Christian Science treatment would fail where medical treatment was succeeding for a cousin, was exposed and destroyed. This healing was instantaneous.

When a symptom of a so-called incurable disease appeared on my body, I sank to low depths of despair for a few days. The only gleam of light—a very sickly one—was the thought that I would come through the experience, but only after a long battle with suffering. The first step out of the depths was taken when I prayed that I would remain faithful to the teachings of Christian Science. The next was the realization that if a lesson needed to be learned, God could and would teach me without punishment, because He is all-wise, all-powerful, and all-loving. Then Jesus' declaration (Matt. 9 : 13), "I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance," enabled me to know that were I the veriest sinner, the Christ is here to save.
